Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress on Thursday said that they are not being able to book advertisements or pay Rs 2 for anything as it targeted the Centre on the matter of its funds being frrezed by the income tax department, alleging that this has just not impacted their party but democracy in India.

The highly anticipated launch of the 'AGNIBAAN SOrTeD (Sub-Obital Technology Demonstrator)' Mission, initially scheduled for 07:00 Hrs IST on March 22, 2024, has been postponed due to technical issues. The new launch date will be announced at a later time.

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and other BJP leaders landed in legal trouble after the Election Commission on Wednesday directed the Karnataka chief electoral officer (CEO) to take immediate and appropriate action on the DMK's complaint about alleged model code violation. An FIR has been lodged by the Halasuru Gate police under sections 143, 149, 188, 283, 290 and 268 against BJP leaders including BJP MP Tejashwi Surya, Karandlaje, party MP PC Mohan and 41 others in connection with the Nagarathpet incident. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and several other party workers held a protest after a shopkeeper was beaten by over five men for allegedly playing devotional songs.

Electoral Bonds Row: State Bank of India (SBI) has submitted all details of electoral bonds with serial numbers to the Election Commission of India (ECI), on the directions of the Supreme Court.

In a significant development, the Supreme Court criticised Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for his refusal to reinduct senior DMK leader K Ponmudi as a minister in the state cabinet following a stay on his conviction in a disproportionate assets case. The court directed Governor Ravi to decide on the matter within 24 hours, expressing "serious concern" over his conduct and emphasising his defiance of the Supreme Court's authority.

The horrific double murder of two kids by Sajid and Javed, two Muslim brothers in the city of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh has caused anguish and consternation in the minds of people. More so, because the mother of the two kids was trying to give Rs 5,000 to both the killers before the sordid act was committed. Since the victims were Hindus and the killers were Muslims, there was communal tension in Badaun. Local residents set fire to the hair cutting saloon run by the killers. A few hours later, on Tuesday night, Badaun police killed one of the killers, Sajid, in an encounter, while Javed fled. He later surrendered in Bareilly on Thursday morning. The motive behind the horrendous killings is still unclear. There was no past enmity between the two families. The third kid was also attacked, but he locked himself inside a room and saved himself. The father of the kids, Vinod, is a local contractor, while the mother, Sangeeta, runs a beauty parlour in the building. 

Congress leader Anand Sharma opposed the 'caste census', saying it is 'disrespect to the former prime minister - Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi's legacy'.

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, the Congress party on Thursday released a list of 34 candidates for the northeastern state. The names include leaders like Sanhey Phuntsok, Kompu Dolo, Okram Yosung, Tobing Lego among others. The state Assembly has a total of 60 seats. 

Fact check unit: The Supreme Court Thursday put on hold the Centre’s notification setting up its fact-checking unit under the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to identify fake news about the Union government. The Fact Check Unit was established on March 20 under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The Election Commission of India has directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today (March 21) to immediately halt the delivery of Viksit Bharat messaging over WhatsApp. A compliance report on the matter has been demanded immediately from MeitY.
