Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The 18th Lok Sabha will witness parliamentary elections for all 543 constituencies in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 and the result will be declared on June 4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is eyeing a historic straight third term in office to equal Jawahar Lal Nehru's three consecutive terms. Nehru won three Lok Sabha elections in a row in 1951-52, 1957 and 1962. Earlier, PM Modi expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will get more than 400 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win at least 370 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. However, to achieve this target the BJP needs to retain its 2019 tally of 303 and for that, it becomes vital that the saffron party register victories in 32 Lok Sabha seats which it won for the first time in its electoral history in 2019. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Union Minister and BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Rajeev Chandrasekhar has sent a legal notice to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, accusing the MP of making defamatory statements against him. In his notice, the BJP leader has accused Tharoor of disseminating "patently false information" regarding the bribing of key voters and influential figures such as parish priests, among others, by the BJP candidate.

Day after the Delhi High Court rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest, his advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appealed to the Chief Justice of India for an early hearing of his petition challenging the HC verdict. The CJI, on Wednesday,  promised “to look into it”.  On Tuesday, Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma of Delhi HC in a 106-page judgment noted that the Enforcement Directorate had sufficient evidence “at this stage which points out towards the guilt” of Kejriwal for the commission of offence of money laundering in the Delhi excise policy case.  The High Court said, “he is allegedly involved in two capacities – in his personal capacity as he was involved in the formulation of the policy and in demanding kickbacks; And as the national convenor of AAP… for the use of the proceeds of crime.”

Hassan Lok Sabha Election 2024: The key contest in Karnataka's Hassan constituency will take place between Prajwal Revanna of the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) and Shreyas Patel Gowda of the Congress. The polling on Hassan seat will take place in the second phase on April 26.

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that an electoral candidate’s right to privacy remains intact in terms of disclosing asserts irrelevant to voters or his public role. The apex court clarified that candidates are not mandated to reveal every asset owned by them or their dependents. The top court said they need to disclose only those assets that significantly influence their public image or lifestyle and have a bearing on an elector’s choice.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea seeking a breathalyser test of voters in queue at every polling booth during the elections. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta refused to interfere with the Andhra Pradesh High Court order dismissing the petition and said, "It is more of a publicity interest litigation".
